research Help

Looking for a way to avoid using Wikipedia to start a research paper or presentation? We have several reference books both in print in the library (search the catalog to find them) and electronic resources as well.

Try out the following, all of which can be found on the Databases/Articles page:

  • Credo and Sage E-reference are two general databases that search a broad range of academic encyclopedias and dictionaries.
  • CQ Researcher has good histories and analyses of current events including (hint, hint) political issues.
  • The Literary Reference Center has author backgrounds, plot summaries, and beginning critical analyses.
  • Finally, you can search Encyclopedia Britannica as well; it'll help you gather basic information about your project.

We welcome your comments as we evaluate this service. Thank you!
