Things to Do (online):

A great place to look up Chicago Events is the Chicago Tribune. You can also search this paper from our database page, if you'd like to see reviews of specific events.

The City of Chicago has a webpage listing events occurring around Chicago by category. For example, see a list of upcoming festivals by clicking on the festivals link on that page.

Finally, the Metromix site hosted by the Chicago Tribune has tons of restaurant, theater, and event reviews, along with a way to search for events or places by neighborhood or date.

The CTA site will tell you how to get around without driving, including which L stations are temporarily closed. Not sure of the best way to get somewhere? Try their Trip Planner, which will give you step by step directions.

Library Sources :

For students taking classes on campus at North Park University, the easiest way to start finding books is to search the library catalog. (For help in searching the online catalog, see here.) The call numbers F548 lead to more information about the history of Chicago, whereas NA 735 will lead to specialized information about Chicago architecture.

Often, a subject search will give you more focused information on a topic. To perform a subject search, type a word into the catalog, and then select "Subject" in the box to the right.

Sample Subject searches for Chicago information:

  • Chicago --History
  • City planning --Illinois --Chicago (this will lead to architecture of chicago)
  • Chicago (Ill.) --Description and travel (this will lead to books describing walking tours and other things to do here.)
