World AIDS Week

Around forty million people are living with HIV throughout the world - and that number increases in every region every day… Ignorance and prejudice are fuelling the spread of a preventable disease. World AIDS Day, December 1st, is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and AIDS. This year, it's up to you, me and us to stop the spread of HIV and end prejudice.

HIV/AIDS Awareness Forum

Join North Park University’s forum on AIDS/HIV awareness, from 10:30AM to 12:00 noon on Monday, December 1 in Ohlson Lounge in Nyvall Hall. We will address the social and structural issues surrounding AIDS/HIV overseas in Africa and also in the US and specifically in Chicago. We are having a number of people at the forum representing a variety of perspectives. One of the issues that we will be addressing is the "Know your status" campaign, which encourages people, regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, nationality, religious background and sexuality to get tested for HIV.

Sponsor

Help our Zambian Partner build a school for children that are vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. All money donated before February 2009 will be matched by a private donor. Go here for more info.

Get Tested

Know your status. On Wednesday December 3rd from 12:00 noon to 3pm you can get free confidential testing of HIV provided by Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN) in the Helwig Conference Room in Brandel Library. Located in Chicago and founded in 1987, TPAN continues to grow and evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of those affected by HIV and AIDS. TPAN offers a range of services, including treatment and resource information, support, buddy networks, yoga, limited medical clinic focusing primarily on testing, but also including diagnostics and blood work, needle exchange and a variety of other services.  To learn more visit TPAN online.
